Biography
Victor Delamarre

On September 24th 1888, Charles DeLamarre and Marie Tremblay gave birth to Victor DeLamarre in Hébertville, Lac-St-Jean. Popular belief had it that those born with hair in a form of wave (Capulet) were gifted with superior abilities than the common human being. Victor inherited strength. From age 8, biking was his favorite exercise. During recess hours, he would push as far as outside Québec City to Sault Montmorency. When he was 13, he would train at boxing and wrestling. At 14, he heard about Louis Cyr who was then known as the world's strongest man, but young Victor claimed he could already surpass him. Nobody would believe him, due to his young age, but in his heart, he knew very well he could surpass him. As a teenager, his achievements impressed everyone who would see them. For example, at 15 years old, he would carry 450lbs on his shoulder for miles, which he repeated on many occasions for everyone to see.

At adulthood, Victor had a spine which was 4 inches wide, which is more than twice the size of the most advantageously built men, and he was only 5'8" tall. He entered the Montreal police force where he stayed 2 years. On April 2nd 1914, at age 25, he established his record lift of 309 1/2 lbs at the Arcade theater of Montreal. On June 12th 1914, he gave his resignation letter as policeman of the city of Montreal. He married Elmina Garneau on September 14th 1914. He received the golden belt adorned with diamonds at Lac-Bouchette on December 17th 1921, proclaiming him the world's strongest man.

Victor died on March 14th 1955 in Quebec's St-François-d'Assise hospital. He was 67.
